The RMSCA started in 1986 when a group of shopping center marketing managers got together for lunch and discuss mutual interests. They enjoyed each other’s company so much that they decided to meet monthly. In those days it was a “girls only” club. (Not really, it just happened that way.) Over the years as the club became more sophisticated, incorporated, and went through the business of electing officers and board members. It was all volunteers. In 2004 the board chose an Executive Director and commissioned him to develop the RMSCA as a professional association. He opened the doors to “associate members” (non-shopping centers) and reduced the number of meetings from 10 to 4 per year. The meetings become mini-seminars with one guest speaker and a number of “booths” displaying the wares of the associate members. The topics are always related to shopping center activities. They range from marketing, to security, to prognostications about the economy.
In 2011 the Executive Director position was accepted by Jackie Herbst.
